CCTV for Nairobi Homes and Shops: What Actually Matters Beyond Camera Count
Updated: 2 hours ago
Camera count is the easiest number to sell and the least useful one to buy on. A shop with four well-placed cameras usually sees more than one with eight badly placed ones.
Placement Before Quantity
Entrances and the till point first, always
Blind spots created by shelving, pillars, or parked vehicles
A wide entrance view plus a close-up view of transactions, not just one or the other
Storage: Local vs Cloud
A local DVR or NVR keeps footage on-site and does not depend on your internet connection, which matters given how often connectivity can drop. Cloud storage adds convenient remote access and off-site backup, but is only as reliable as your internet uptime. Many Nairobi installations use both: local storage as the reliable backbone, cloud as a convenience layer.
Power Backup for the Cameras Themselves
A camera system that goes dark during a blackout defeats its own purpose, which is exactly when opportunistic break-ins happen. A small UPS dedicated to the DVR and cameras keeps recording through short outages.
Night vision range, not just its presence, and a system that lets you check live footage from your phone are worth asking about specifically, since both vary a lot between otherwise similar-looking kits.
